These few pages are all about my Feldbahn 0‑6‑0 from Station Road Steam and the
’little’ side projects associated with it. The creation of this website was highly inspired by
reading Gentoo’s Journals from time to time. Their field reports and little
stories helped me to figure out some difficulties or even prevented mishaps from happening in the first place. So
if you haven’t been there already, I would like to encourage you to at least take a glimpse.
The first letters contributing to the Feldbahn Journal were typed on 10 May 2022, in expectation to steadily build up a
compendium of helpful and perhaps even entertaining articles over time.
Probably the project with the most inaccuracies so far – which themselves fit the Feldbahn look perfectly. So they were made in a workshop, using its available tools, with no great machinist skills involved, just the average craftsman’s capabilities – pretty much the way how a real ‘Feldbahn’ runs and is kept running.
Apart from the topic itself, this article took me more than a year to write. The two lamps themselves were finished within two months....
A day in steam doesn’t last forever, and sooner or later the fire gets removed. Besides a good amount of ash in the fire and the smokebox, the fire tubes are also covered with soot.
Components Brush The best way to get them clean again is to use a flue brush whose bristles are softer than those of the steel tubes but still hard enough to scrape off the dirt. It also could be a good idea if the material is somewhat heat-resistant....
The engineer’s little helper to get things started.
Starting out this hobby nearly from scratch, a steam raising blower was needed for the Feldbahn 0-6-0. As of so often there are many offers to be found on the internet – and just as reliable, either they don’t fit the engine or the engineer’s purse. And so it starts – an own 12V DC steam raising blower project.
BTW, this blower should also fit a Stafford or General Gordon....
Some say the injector is probably the most mysterious part engineers have ever come up with.
In this article I’m not going to cover the technical details and functionality of an injector, as others have already covered this subject very well. I’d rather like to share my experiences with them, specifically on the Feldbahn, so you get the chance to experience a much quicker start than I did.
The cover image shows an Injector No....
After I’d seen pictures of other Feldbahns on the internet with having derailing bars attached to them, I thought to myself it might be wise to have one too.
I figured the most vulnerable parts must be the cylinder drain cocks because they were pretty much the lowest – and additionally – one of the more ‘fragile’ parts on the loco. So in case of a derailment, it would be very likely that they would be damaged....
